Hue Loco is built on a foundational obsession with color and we are constantly exploring its infinite possibilities! Our sets are the perfect way for our studio to expand upon our regular offerings, to cut loose and get extra creative with what we do from creating smooth fades, discordant sets, and unique combinations. In this blog post, we will take you on a journey through our set offerings and introduce you to their immense potential. Our sets offer a wide variety of options to suit any need under the sun!

In addition to our in-stock offerings, we also have limited edition sets available throughout the year. For example, our monthly series introduces a new mini set inspired by a different theme each year. Our annual Fall Palette includes 5 new mini sets and 10 four-skein 50g sets in exciting new colorways. And of course, we have special sets for the holiday season that you won't want to miss!

Whether a set has in-stock colors included in it or not we have tons of coordinate options to choose from if you have a larger project in mind! If you ever need assistance or professional opinions when color matching, send us an email at colormehappy@hueloco.com and we will be happy to help!

So now that we know what kinds of sets we offer, let’s take a closer look at the details! To cater to every maker’s needs, we offer our yarn sets in a variety of sizes and bases. Whether you prefer mini sets for smaller projects or full skein sets for larger endeavors, we have you covered.

Mini Sets

  • Each set includes 10 skeins, weighing 20g each, totaling 200g of yarn. This is equivalent to 2 full skeins.
  • Offered on Merino Sock, Phyllis Sock, and Phyllis DK; select sets offered on Single Sock, Tweed Sock, Tweed DK

These sets are absolutely perfect for small to mid-sized projects when used on their own, think hats, shawls, socks, mittens, tops, and things in that vein. Here are some patterns we think would be absolutely perfect for our mini sets:

1) Scrappy Marl (free) by Beata Jezek, image courtesy of the designer
2) Mosaic Shawl by A la Saschaimage courtesy of the designer

And if you want to take these sets to the next level, they can be paired as a contrast with a semisolid for a larger project! Look at these stunning options!

2) Stony Stream Shawl by Stephen West, image courtesy of the designer

50g Sets

  • Each set includes 10 skeins, weighing 50g each, totaling 500g of yarn. This is equivalent to 5 full skeins.
  • Offered on Merino Sock, Phyllis Sock, and Phyllis DK; select sets offered on Single Sock

These sets boast 500g of fiber meaning that you can get into those larger projects such as large shawls and scarves, certain sweaters, and more! We love these patterns for our 50g sets:

Full Skein Sets

  • Each set includes 10 skeins, weighing 100g each, totaling 1000g of yarn. This is equivalent to 10 full skeins.
  • Offered on Merino Sock, Phyllis Sock, and DK
  • Please note that in our Full Skein DK sets, we use our 100% Merino DK base rather than our Nylon/Merino Phyllis DK blend.

Now we are getting into big project territory! These 1000g sets are excellent for those big ticket items like sweaters, dresses, even some blankets! Here are just a few ideas for how to use our full skein sets:

1) La Prairie by Joji Locatelli, image courtesy of the designer
2) Grannie Go Round Cardigan by Iron Lamb, image courtesy of the designer

The vast majority of our sets will fall into the categories above, but it is worth noting that we have the occasional set that breaks the mold!

Each month we release a new Mini Bundle consisting of 6 minis curated to compliment one of our in stock semisolids! These are available on Merino Sock and Phyllis Sock and are incredible stash builders or can be used for any smaller project that you would use a standard mini set for. And very occasionally we will release mini sets that are built of 5 minis! These are available on Merino Sock, Phyllis Sock, and Phyllis DK and are generally special, one-off sets.

Phew, that’s a lot of set talk! Now that you know everything there is to know about Hue Loco sets we hope you feel inspired and empowered to go forth and make your fiber dreams come true!
