Each Hue Loco skein is carefully handled, nurtured, and guided throughout our studio process. This by-hand approach creates depth, movement, and subtle variation in color that machine-dyed yarn simply cannot replicate.

Whether on the same base or a variety of yarn bases, no two skeins of hand dyed yarn will ever look exactly the same. Consistency matters to us at Hue Loco, and we take great care to keep our dye lots as cohesive as possible. That said, the beauty of hand-dyeing also means every skein carries its own subtle, unique differences. Color variations are not imperfections but rather evidence of time, care, and artistry! Working with hand dyed yarn means embracing these differences, and sometimes, even seeking them out. In all kinds of projects, hand dyed yarn adds dimension, personality, and life that continues to evolves as you work it up.

The Process, Step by Step
Every skein comes into our studio as bare yarn, ready for its transformation. The yarn is carefully prepped, and thoroughly soaked in water so it can absorb dye evenly, creating a strong foundation for the layered color effects and subtle shifts that define hand dyed yarn. We apply our color using professional acid dyes, we layer by hand to encourage depth, movement, and natural variation as heat, time, and fiber interact. 

After dyeing, we allow the yarn to cool and fully set. It's washed and rinsed to remove excess dye and dried for a number of hours. Each skein is sorted and wound by hand, then labeled, inventoried, and either packed for shipment or shelved and added to the website.
