At Hue Loco, we believe that beautiful yarn starts with responsible sourcing. Every fiber we offer is carefully selected to honor the animals, the land, and the makers behind it.

Superwash Merino

Our Superwash Merino yarn is 100% mulesing free, superwash treated to the highest Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, and spun from a fine 21.5 micron grade for exceptional next-to-skin softness. This globally recognized certification ensures the yarn is tested for harmful substances such as heavy metals, pesticides, and allergenic dyes, and covers every component of the product. Independent testing is renewed annually to maintain strict safety standards, making it safe and gentle even for sensitive skin.

Mohair

Our Mohair is RMS Certified (Responsible Mohair and Alpaca Standard), ensuring responsible animal welfare, land management, and full traceability from farm to yarn.

RMS places animal welfare, land health, and full traceability at the center of its standards. Pastures are managed to protect soil, water, and biodiversity, and every stage of production is tracked so you know exactly what you are knitting and/or crocheting with.

Animal welfare is a key focus of the certification. Farms must treat animals with care and respect; there can be no mistreatment during handling, shearing, or transport. Animals must have access to shelter, food, water, and open pasture, and regular audits ensure that farms continue to meet these high standards.

Alpaca

The Alpaca we utilize in our Suri base is sourced from small, independent farmers whose way of life centers on their animals. Our mill partners with these farmers to support breeding and education programs that help produce some of the finest alpaca fiber in the world. Each fleece is carefully sorted by micron and color by highly skilled women, resulting in an exceptionally soft yarn.

Wild Base (coming soon)

We proudly create and spin our own Wild yarn line, made entirely from 100% Colorado-sourced wool and spun within the Mountains & Plains Fibershed. Through this line, we are able to support local ranches, regional mills, and sustainable wool practices in our own backyard. Our shepherds and ranchers prioritize natural flock management, animal husbandry practices, and thoughtful stewardship of the land. Every skein carries the natural beauty of Colorado wool and the knowledge of generations, creating a direct connection between the ranch, the land, the animals, and your hands.

If the term ‘Fibershed’ is new to you, it refers to a geographically defined area from which raw textile materials are responsibly sourced. This growing movement is experiencing traction around the globe as it empowers producers and consumers to challenge textile production patterns.

Ethical and Sustainable Practices

At Hue Loco, we are committed to sourcing our yarn bases from farms and suppliers that prioritize ethical and sustainable practices. Our partners also manage their land responsibly to protect soil, water, and biodiversity, while supporting the people and communities who depend on it. This commitment ensures that every skein of yarn you work with is not only beautiful and soft but also produced with integrity and respect for animals, the environment, and the people who make it possible.
