All About That Base: DK
Hello friends, and welcome back to All About That Base! Today we are going to look at our DK weight bases, so let's get started!
DK Fundamentals:
- Blend: 100% Superwash Merino Wool
- Weight: DK
- Structure: 4-ply
- Yardage: 230 yards per 100g skein
- Recommended Needle Size: US 5-7, 21-24 stitches per 4 inches
- Recommended Hook Size: 7-I, 12-17 stitches per 4 inches
- Care Instructions: Hand wash cold, dry flat
- Available In: 100g skeins & 100g sets

DK can truly do it all so it makes sense that it's one of our most popular bases! Our 100% Superwash Merino DK, or Double-Knitting weight base works up quickly creating a substantial, satisfying fabric that is ultra-soft and bouncy. DK is a wonderful mid-weight yarn providing the delicate stitch definition of a fingering weight while also giving you the warmth and density of a heavier weight; it would be a total dream for anything from socks to blankets!
One of our favorite things about our DK is the texture! The 4-ply structure gives this yarn a smooth finish that will give your stitches a professional, defined look and you cannot beat the drape! Shawls and sweaters will hang beautifully and your socks or hats will have plenty of stretch and bounce-back ensuring that your makes fit perfectly for years to come.

It is important to note that Hue Loco actually has two different DK bases in stock! All of our full DK skeins are 100% Merino as discussed above, but if you have your eye on any DK minis, mini sets, or 50g sets, you will be receiving our Phyllis DK base!
Phyllis DK Fundamentals:
- Blend: 75% Superwash Merino Wool, 25% Nylon
- Weight: DK
- Structure: 4-ply
- Yardage: 49 yards per 20g mini, 120 yards per 50g skein
- Recommended Needle Size: US 5-7, 21-24 stitches per 4 inches
- Recommended Hook Size: 7-I, 12-17 stitches per 4 inches
- Care Instructions: Hand wash cold, dry flat
- Available In: minis, mini sets, 50g sets

Phyllis DK is named as such because it is the exact same blend as our Phyllis Sock base but in a different weight! This Merino/Nylon blend has a slightly more defined ply structure than our pure Merino DK base but fear not! In a larger project where you may have to use both bases, they will coexist beautifully!

Note Worthy:
- All of our full size DK skeins are 100% Merino while any mini or 50g DK skeins in the shop are going to be a 75/25 Merino/Nylon blend
- While they are different blends, our Merino and Phyllis blends of DK work wonderfully together!
