At Hue Loco, we offer the most common yarn weights for knitting, which we have categorized by thickness and listed below.

For knitters, fingering weight yarn is by far the most popular. DK weight comes next, offering a versatile, quick-to-knit option ideal for both beginners and experienced knitters. Worsted weight is a close third, working up even faster than DK, while remaining highly versatile.

Lace Weight Yarn

Lace yarn is the finest and most delicate of yarns, and we have it available in a Mohair base and a Suri Alpaca base. Lace weight yarn is often used for delicate, intricate projects, such as shawls, light wraps, and light garments.

Lace weight yarn can also be combined with a thicker yarn and “held double” to create a cozier project.

Fingering Weight Yarn

Fingering weight yarn is also known as sock weight yarn. The number one choice for knitting, our fingering weight yarn is available in five different bases:

  • Phyllis Sock base: 4-ply, made from 75% Superwash Merino and 25% Nylon
  • Merino Sock base: 2-ply, high-twist, made from 80% Superwash Merino and 20% Nylon
  • Single Sock base: 1-ply, high-twist, made from 100% Superwash Merino
  • Spun XL Sock base: 2-ply, high-twist, made from 80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Nylon
  • Wild Sock base: 2-ply, made from 100% non-Superwash, fine Colorado Merino Wool

The favorite choice for knitters, Fingering weight yarn is commonly used for socks, lightweight sweaters and tops, hats, baby clothes and blankets, and colorwork.

Sport Weight Yarn

Sport weight yarn is slightly thicker than fingering weight, and it’s ideal for lightweight sweaters, baby garments, hats, and accessories that offer comfort across a range of temperatures. We currently do not offer a Sport weight yarn option, but plan to add one in the future.

DK Weight Yarn

We have DK weight yarn available in three different bases:

  • DK base: 4-ply, made from 100% Superwash Merino
  • Phyllis DK base: 2-ply, made from 75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon
  • Wild DK base: 2-ply, made from 100% Non-Superwash, fine Colorado Merino Wool

Popular among knitters, DK weight yarn (which stands for Double Knitting) is often used for a wide variety of projects, such as children’s clothing, lightweight sweaters, textured hats, and blankets.

Worsted Weight Yarn

A medium-weight yarn, our 4-ply Worsted yarn is made from 100% Superwash Merino yarn. Great for beginners, Worsted yarn is often used to make sweaters, blankets, scarves, mittens, and hats, as well as throw pillows, cardigans, and pullovers.

Aran Weight Yarn

Coming Spring of 2026, our 2-ply Aran yarn is made from 70% Superwash Merino, 20% Alpaca, and 10% Nylon. Aran yarn is slightly thicker and loftier than Worsted yarn, and it’s often used to knit cabled sweaters, thick winter wraps and mittens, and highly textured blankets.

Bulky Weight Yarn

A heavy yarn, our 3-ply Bulky yarn is made from 100% Superwash Merino. Also referred to as “chunky” yarn, Bulky yarn is often used to knit heavy, warm sweaters, blankets, rugs, scarves, and hats.

Super Bulky Weight Yarn

Super Bulky weight yarn is thick and cozy, working up very quickly for large projects. Its substantial weight makes it ideal for chunky sweaters, blankets, scarves, and accessories that provide warmth and comfort. We currently do not offer a Super Bulky weight option.
